A blooming crabapple bough with purple finches and ruby throated hummingbirds. Hummingbirds take nectar from and in turn, pollinate crabapples. Purple finches enjoy the nectar and berries while helping to keep insect populations on the tree in balance. They also help to pollinate the crabapple tree. Crabapple trees also attract many other birds and small mammals. There’s a pretty cool exchange happening between crabapples and the wildlife in its ecological community.
