The Magnolia People and the Cardinal People.
Three 20” x 16” x 1.5 acrylic on wood panel works
Native Americans considered magnolia trees to be sacred beings and cardinals as sacred messengers. Native Americans saw other species, as sacred, sentient life forces. In some Native American cultures, when they referred to, perhaps a particular kind of bird, it’s followed by a word similar to people. The species was referred to as a kind of people. Language creates the framework for our thought and belief systems.
Our current culture looks at everything as a commodity to be used for our gain to be cashed in at some opportune time. We should all practice looking around us, and recognizing the tree people and the bird people and the bear people until we learn to see them as equals.
