48 x 48” acrylic on wood panel
The barn owl in this painting tells a story of the good this owl does for the greater ecosystem. Through rodent predation, the barn owl directly protects crops from damage and reduces the need for rodenticides. The owls’ gift is an increased crop yield and reductions in rodent and pesticide borne disease. The irony of this is when humans use rodenticides to kill rodents, even in their homes, the end result is often the death of an owl or other bird of prey. Poisoned mice are slow mice and make easy prey.
The owl makes eye contact with the viewer imploring the viewer to recognize his sentience, value and importance.
