White oak trees with birds sheltering in their branches. White Oaks can live 500 years, reach 180 feet tall and provide food for over 500 species of caterpillars, many of which become pollinators. White Oaks provide habitat for many birds. Shown here: red bellied woodpecker, Eastern bluebirds, scarlet tangier, and rose-breasted grosbeak. Flying squirrels, bats and other mammals also shelter in these magnificent trees.
Iridescence has always represented life energy to me, so the oaks’ limbs are painted in these colors.
