acrylic on wood panel
A magnolia bough with goldfinches. At 100 billion years old, magnolias are the earliest flowering plants. They evolved before the bee and butterfly and to this day rely on a simpler process of pollination provided by beetles that feed on their protein rich pollen. Evergreen magnolias provide year-round shelter for songbirds and other small vertebrates. Woodpeckers and other species feed on their seeds.
