From the gifts they bring series, a larger than life barn owl flying toward and engaging the viewer. The owl makes eye contact with the viewer imploring us to recognize her significance and sentience. Barn owls and other animals have value completely independent of any value humans place on them, but they also perform services for us. One such service is protecting our crops by keeping rodent populations in balance. This reduces rodent borne diseases in the area and the need for pesticide use. Pesticide use is not only detrimental to humans; it is deadly for the barn owl. Slow pesticide sickened rodents make easy prey, passing the ingested poisons on to the barn owl and other birds of prey. Please don’t use rodenticides, even in your home.
